Crash (1996)

Directed by David Cronenberg

Crash

Canadian freak-boy, David Cronenberg, turns in a riveting and alien story of auto-eroticism. Waspy and anemic James Spader plays a movie director whose life is irrevocably changed by a car accident. Holly Hunter is also moved by their chance head-on collision to look longingly at Spader while exposing herself. It's not long after that both get involved with a whole sub-culture of car-crash sex fiends. The rest of the movie is obsessed with body modification both of cars and people. One of the weirdest encounters involves Rosanna Arquette who is girded with more braces and supports than the Brooklyn Bridge. She invites Spader to explore a brand new orifice. Gender counts for little, the crash is everything. New Line tried hard to distance itself from this lobster-fest. Look for the NC-17 version only (duh!). -- Rating: $7.00
